the yard were common and horseshoes were always popular. During the later war years, going to the beach at Halliday’s Wharf or McMillan’s shore seemed the thing to do on summer Sunday afternoons. Having the ’38 Ford truck on hand made these trips easy and often the box would be filled with Ionians even though probably not one of them was a swimmer. After the war we became more and more involved in organized ball games with Iona teams quite prominent at softball in particular, thus providing a favorite Sunday afternoon pastime for many people both with games at home and on the road.
