present but did not have to testify. It was an extremely humorous courthouse trial with both lawyers bringing out re- sponses of a jovial nature. But no one added such humor as did the old gentleman himself who was quite at home in court and entertained his listeners to rounds of chuckles.

With employment security and pleasant work I should have been anxious to remain at this for a lifetime, but gradually a restlessness set in along with a growing desire to return to the books. By the summer of 1957 my plans were laid and there was no turning back. In August I wrote a letter of resignation to the Hon. Keir Clark, Minister of Education, and a month later enrolled in the grade twelve class at St. Dunstan’s with students ten years younger. After that, department officials of both parties in power were good enough to hire me for eight succes- sive summers.
