and twice a week the members met and pursued their favorite pastime although the volume of shooting fell off noticeably. Yellow topped targets were becoming more popular in the Maritimes. Tam Gillies became ill, retired, and returned to Moncton where he passed away shortly thereafter. In Summerside a couple of flying officers, who had recently been transferred to the R.C.A.F. Station at St. Eleanors, convinced the brass that clay target shooting was a part of the training procedure (even in Navigation School) and set up a skeet field. The new field at the air base was used only on an occasional Sunday afternoon as the enthusiasts more or less kept it to themselves, and their short posting to the Island did little more than leave some equipment here that was not available to everyone. Summerside clay target enthusiast J. Harold Arsenault made an effort to co-ordinate the two Western Capital Clubs by or- ganizing a shoot at the base and inviting Charlottetown and Montague to participate but it was poorly attended, and the meld failed to materialize. The Provincial Championships had a small but enthusiastic entry and Bob Hyndman followed the footsteps of his grandfather Fred, and father Eardley, by winning a major Island clay target event, when he took the skeet championship for the first time. The trap title went to his longtime gunning friend, Dr. Gil Houston.
