SUMMERSIDE
SUMMERSIDE is the second town in point of population arid its people are energetic and full of business. There are excellent hotels, stores, haridsome residences and, generally speaking, Summerside carries an air of prosperity that is not merely ascumed, for this is the wealthiest part of a rich Province. There is much here to attract the summer visitor. From a hill in the rear of Summerside is a: glorious view of the country and of the waters to the North and South. Looking one way, Bedeque Bay is seen with all its attractive surroundings, while beyond it is Northumberland Strait with the coast line of New Bruns- wick in the distance. In the other direction is Richmond Bay with its seven islands and beyond it, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, while the irregular line of shore and the Islands that dot the water make a fitting foreground for a truly delightful picture. Summerside has a good nine hole golf course.
ALBERTON a beautiful little town on Cascumpec Bay, noted for fishing and shooting, is also the home of the Silver Fox Industry. Here, en a little island in Alberton Harbour, the late R. T. Oulton in part- nership with the late Sir Charles Dalton, raised to maturity the first silver foxes, bred in captivity. Bathing may be enjoyed in the sheltered waters of Montrose River or in the surf off the rugged cliffs of Kildare. The tourist or visitor will find here excellent hotel accommodation at reasonable rates. A short distance from Alberton is Riverside Inn, the Mecca of the summer tourist, ideally situated on Mill River, with over- night cabins and a fine restaurant.
TIGNISH, the Western terminus of the Railway, and the birthplace of the late Sir Charles Dalton, pioneer of the Silver Fox industry.
SOURIS on Colville Bay is of great importance in the fish trade of the Island. The harbour is a haven of refuge for many fishing vessels, which also outfi; here with supplies. Souris is also a port of call for the mail steamers from Pictou to the Magdalen Islands. There are many beautiful roads around here, and nothing more enjcyable could be imagined than the drive along the shore from Souris to Bay Fortune. At this point, on Abel’s Caps, is located what is known as the Actors’ Colony. The late Charles Coughlin was the first actcr to purchase property at this atirac‘ive point, and his enthusiasm for the ideal spot inspired many of his friends to do likewise. New cot- tages and bungalows have been added from year to year and Elmer Harris, whose name is familiar with all movie enthusiasts, built a beautiful summer home here *o which he adds new attractions every season. So deeply did the late C. P, Flockton appreciate the restful beauty of the “Garden Province”, he asked that his cremated remains be buried at Bay Fortune, where they rest under a monument erec‘ed by Mr. David Belasco, Mrs. Leslie Carter and other friends.
MONTAGUE is a lovely town on the Montague River, famous for its splendid hotel accommodation and excellent fishing.
GEORGETOWN, the capital of King’s County, is beautifully ‘sit- uated with fine beaches and one of the best harbours in this part of Canada. There are good stores and some fine old residences. Boating and deep sea fishing may be enjoyed to the full, and at Morrison’s Beach, Brudenell River and Sturgeon River, there is good sea trou’ fishing.
