PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

BORDEN, the main gateway of the Province, is situated on North. umberland Strait, about forty miles south-west of ‘Charlottetown and fifteen miles south-east of Summerside. The tourist will find good hotel accommodation here, should he desire to rest over night, before ex- ploring further inland.

VICTORIA, on the Strait of Northumberland. About thirteen miles from Borden, on the road to Chariottetown, the motorist will pass through the village of Victoria. Gocd hotel accommodation, and a bank. Sea bathing may be had here.

BEACH GROVE HOTEL. A modern summer hotel, with private go f course, tennis courts, ball-room, diving stage, et¢., is only three miles from ‘Charlottetown on the main Borden-Charlottetown road. Its surrounding scenery is delightful. Individual locked garages are provided for the cars of the hotel’s guests.

CHAKLOTTETCWN, the Capital City of the Province, population approximately 13,000, One of the oldest Provincia olr State capitals on the continent.

THE OLD COLONIAL BUILDING, set amongst the floral beauties of Queen Square Gardsens, is by far the most interesting and_ historic Jandmark in the Province of ‘Prince Edward Island. It boasts of being the birthplace of Confederation, for within its walls, in the old Chamber of the Executive Council, gathered the early fathers of the movement to make a united Canada. This was on September first, in the year 1864, the Union being consummated on Dominion Day, July first, 1867. A large plaque commemorating the meeting of those who “builded better than they knew” is contained in the old Legislative Council Chamber along with other records of great historic interest and value. To-day the building houses the Chamber, wherein the Licutenant-Governor annually convenes the Legislature which enacts the laws of this, the smailest Provitice of the Dominion. The offices of the Premier ana cther executives of the Provincial Government will also be found here.

GREAT WAR MEMORIAL. Just north of the Colonial Building, is found the City’s memorial to her sons who died in the Great War; and not far away is the Boer War Memorial which stands in memory of two sons of the City who lost their lives in the South African conflict.

THE HARRIS MEMORIAL GALLERY AND CHARLOTTETOWN PUBLIC LIBRARY, will be of considerable interest to visitors. The building housing these institutions is adjacent to the market house. The Gallery contains many of the works of the late Robert Harris, C. M.'G., R. C. A., a noted Canadian artist, well known for his “Fathers of Confederation.” The art enthusiast wil find more of Mr. Harris’ work, if he cares to visit The Memorial Chap2l of Saint Peter’s Cathedral, to be found at the foot of the square, which adjoins ths Canadian National Hotel. |The Chapel which was designed by Mr. Harris’ brother is unique and is probably the finest of its kind on the continent.
